Factors associated with dissemination, stromal recruitment, and bone response in PCa bone metastases once PCa cells have invaded the vasculature, they are bound by platelets and adhere to the bone marrow endothelium through platelet-tumor-endothelial interactions. The cells could be attracted by chemotactic factors and extravasate into the bone marrow. Once in the marrow the tumor cells can remain dormant or proliferate and recruit reactive stroma immediately. Depending upon the tumor phenotype and the site of bone metastasis, the cells can elicit a number of different bone reactions including: osteoblastic, osteolytic, or a mixed response. -GLG/TFG*: beta-galactoside-binding lectin galectin-3 and Thomsen-Friedenreich glycoantigen.
